Great Super Bowl halftime show; Ads leave something to be desired
It’s nice to actually watch and listen to a band for a change during halftime of the Big Game. Usually I have to endure all the falderol and garbage that goes with the over-hyped football championship game.
The Who sound as good as ever. And how cool is it to hear half of South Florida scream: “…we don’t get fooled again!”
And “Meet the New Boss” seems to be more relevant today than ever.
The commercials, on the other hand, leave something to be desired.
In fact, they’re pretty much all completely forgettable. Most of the commercials I’ve seen tonight have been for CBS shows and local car dealers, attorneys and appliance stores. BTW have you noticed that Jerry Bruckheimer seems to have shows on nearly every network?
Bud Light: Typical idiot man ad
Doritos: Kinda stupid
Hyundai: Nothing new
Coke: Not even the Simpsons save this one
Boost Mobile: Do you really expect me to think the 1985 Bears are relevant to your audience?
That’s why I have to give it up to my boy Wendell and Miller High Life for giving small businesses ad time. And here’s to local favorite Gary Patterson, an attorney who has an excellent campaign about being a hero (the guy with the “white hat”). See for yourself.
Well, there’s always next year. I heard Alan Greenspan say today that the recession ended last summer, so perhaps Pepsi and others will be back with some really great spots in 2011.
